Open House
We want to thank everyone who attended out Open House on October 7th.
Due to budget constraints, we intentionally trimmed the event down
with shorter hours and fewer displays and demonstrations.  We plan to
continue Open House in coming years and hope everyone will continue to
stop by to see our equipment and meet and talk with our staff.

Hydrants
Crews have been working throughout October to make certain all public
hydrants in our area ready for winter.  This means dropping a sinker
chain into each hydrant to make certain there is not water remaining
in the barrel.  If there is any water, the hydrant is pumped dry and
re-checked in few days.  Hydrants that fill again are submitted for
service.  Fall hydrant checks do not require we flow any water, so
rusty water is not a problem.

New Hazardous Materials Response Vehicle
Earlier this year our Department specified a new Haz-Mat response
vehicle.  The truck is being manufactured by Sutphen Corp. and its
subsidiaries, and may arrive as early as this coming month.  Our
current vehicle is a refurbished beverage truck that was purchased
approximately 15 years ago.  The new vehicle will be purpose built for
Hazardous Material responses, and is being paid for with a Grant being
administered by the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency.

New Heating/Cooling System
During October and into November our station is having a new heating/
cooling system installed.  The original system that was installed in
the building failed in August.  Hopefully work will be completed
before temperatures get too cold!
