Subject: The June-July Peaceable Table is now online
Dear Animal Kin,

With this joint issue we begin our fifth year of publishing The
Peaceable Table.

*  The Editorial, "The Hidden Paradise," explores the topic that might
be called the foundation for our prophetic work to help liberate our
non-human cousins from enslavement and violence. especially for human
tables.  That foundation is the divine Presence which, usually
unperceived, permeates the universe with splendor and love--a love
that must rule both our end and our means.

*  In the new column "A Glimpse of the Peaceable Kingdom" we tell the
story of a boxer dog who became the adoptive father of an abandoned
baby goat.

*  The "Gem" tells of an incident in the youth of a humorist who
surprised his teacher by speaking up for fish.

*  In one of the "NewsNotes,"  the prestigious Union of Concerned
Scientists reports on the huge damage being done by  CAFOs (factory
farms), whose owners are evading responsibility.

*  The "Film Review" is about the second movie in the Chronicles of
Narnia series, Prince Caspian, in which talking animals take a major
part in reclaiming their country from the usurping Telmarines.

*  The "Recipes" column features a tempting cheeseless "Pizza
Margherita" with alternative toppings.

*  This month's "Pilgrimage" tells the story of how Jason K. Redi
surprised himself by starting the path to a nonviolent diet.

*  Herman Daggett is the intrepid "Pioneer" who spoke up for the
rights (!) of animals more than two hundred years ago in a
commencement address at Providence College, now Brown University.

*  In the "Poetry" column we mine an earlier issue to feature again
John Hall Wheelock's poem "Wood-Thrush," which tells how he suddenly
felt all the pain and joy in the world, including the Hidden Paradise,
during the song of the bird.

We always welcome submissions, especially for "My Pilgrimage."  We are
considering discontinuing this column; so if you enjoy these stories,
please send us yours.
