The February Peaceable Table is now online. My apologies for its
lateness, which is due to another deadline I faced at the same time.
In this issue:
* The Editorial, "Quakers and Abolition," sketches the history of the
Quaker struggle to end the massive cultural evil of human slavery,
first within the Society of Friends itself, and then in English-
speaking society at large. This history has become an instructive
model for Friendly animal defenders.
* The NewsNotes include a link to an effective short cartoon, suitable
for both children and adults, about the dangers animal agriculture
poses to our planet.
* The Gem, by staff member Benjamin Urrutia, is a reflection on human
versus avian responses to living in a golden cage.
* One of the Reviews features the beautiful film The Water Horse
(based on a story by the creator of Babe), about a gentle "monster" in
Loch Ness.
* One of Angela's recipes in this issue that you'll particularly want
to try is the tasty and nutritious Red Lentil and Arborio Rice Stew.
* The February Pilgrim is Sola Wolff, who tells of her lifelong love
of animals and gradual journey into a nonviolent diet.
* In the PIoneer column we present second part of the story of
philosopher/activist Tom Regan, who is still with us at almost seventy
years young.
* Our Poetry selection, by John Galsworthy, is the hymn-like "Prayer
for Gentleness to All Creatures."
We always welcome letters and submissions, especially for the "My
Pilgrimage" column.
