---------- Original Message ------------------------------ ----
I have read multiple times that kosher does NOT signify vegetarian or vegan. And ingredients listed neither, just because Belgian law only permits a few ingredients does not mean that isinglass was not used, because they do not have to report that a filtering agent is an ingredient. There are many kosher & organic wines, unfortunately few of them are vegan. Maybe we need to have a calling, letter-writing campaign to inform these places that if they made some changes they would attract a wider customer base. 20 years ago I could not imagine that there would be labeling of a "V" for vegan items and this has now happened-so it could be, with a little activism that we could influence the wine labelling as well. Even at Wild Oats the vegan wines are not labelled-they have color coding for everything else from kosher to organic to sulfite free, but under kosher & organic it also says, may or may not be vegan, well for strict vegans this does not really help. I have been drinking Frey wines for the past several years, as I know that everything they have is vegan.

I have to agree that to my knowledge, kosher does not necessarily mean
that something does not contain what we might consider meat. I am not
convinced that Jewish law is as strict as many (most?)
vegans/vegetarians are.

I inquired with a Jewish colleague at work and kosher is not necessarily 100% vegan. They can guarantee there is no dairy but it may contain egg and be considered kosher, but that's not vegan. I deleted those emails before I completely understood the issue, but I would not say that kosher wine is all vegan however vegan wine IS kosher. :)

I would love if this were true and I have some kosher wines on my list
([link]), but I've seen
contradictory information in this. For example this article claims
that egg whites may be permissible by some kosher winemakers:
[link]

I was checking out your website, and I think it would be a good idea to
mention that all kosher wine is 100% vegan. Due to strict Jewish laws,
all wine must be made without any animal by-products whatsoever, no
meat, fish, dairy or eggs, so kosher wine is always a great choice for
vegans!
