Hola Bill
Just got back from 4 weeks in Spain. We went to Camp Nou on Saturday
September 13 to see FC Barcelona play Racing Santander. It was a
disappointing 1 all draw. Barcelona should have won but couldn't finish.
Henry was rested.
A few tips. We got our tickets through the internet.
1. Almost whole crowd was for FC Barcelona - it didn't seem to matter where

The other thing I would say about the Camp Nou is take the stadium tour - just turn up at the stadium and buy a ticket from the kiosks. Allow a couple of hours to walk around, it is as impressive behind the scenes as from the stands.

Stuart

----- Original Message ----
To: travelspain@googlegroups.com

 Hi Bill,
Don't worry about this - almost all seats in the stadium will be for
Barça fans. They will reserve one small section way up in the top
stands for the Osasuna fans, where you probably won't even be able to
reserve a seat.
Spanish football games aren't like English ones, for example, where
away fans travel almost religiously to see their teams. Fans do

 Hi, Bill:

I was in Barcelona in mid-May 2002 and found the weather to be fairly warm and sunny most of the time, but also quite humid. Therefore, I never needed a jacket outdoors at night.

Gail in Santa Monica
> Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2008 06:13:08 -0700> Subject: [travelspain] Trip Planning - Barcelona and surrounding areas> From: CivG...@gmail.com> To: travelspain@googlegroups.com> > > Greetings Spain group!> > My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in Spain next May. We are> flying in and out of Barcelona and we have our tickets. We will be on> the ground from the 11th through the 23rd of May.> > The trip will involve 3 spots. Barcelona being the first of course.> From there, our travel agent suggested Begur, staying at the> Aiguaclara Hotel. The hotel looks charming and received many rave> reviews. The area has horseback riding and some other interesting> activities.> > The third destination is still up in the air. I was looking at the> Hotel Trias in Palamos.> > We are looking forward to the night life and bustling city of> Barcelona, but from there we'd like to find more quaint, quieter> venues. I'm imagining some charming little hotel right on the coast> where we can eat breakfast on the patio and look out onto the sea.> > So, question #1: What location/town on the coast should we look at> for our third destination?> > 2. We're trying to find more information about air and water> temperatures in that region. How warm is the water in May?> Swimmable? I've read and heard that in the summer months it gets so> hot that the locals vacation elsewhere. But as I am writing this, in> August, the temperature is only around 80 degrees there. Does 80> degrees in Barcelona feel like our 95? (I'm in Cincinnati, OH USA)> According to the Almanac, the temperatures in Barcelona in May are in> the mid to high 60's. I'm concerned that the beach isn't going to be> terribly comfortable. Would going South, say to Valencia, make any> difference?> > 3. Hotels in Barcelona. I've read hundreds of reviews of various> hotels. Our agent recommended The Colon. But, the general consensus> of the reviews make me wary. On our own, we found Hotel Duquesa De> Cardona. In general, we're keeping the hotels modest and under $200 a> night. But, in Barcelona, I'd be willing to spend more if it is worth> it. We are definitely looking for character, location, and a taste of> Spain. We aren't so interested in ultramodern high tech hotels that> resemble what we'd find down the street here in the States.> > 4. Wineries. The information I've been able to find implies that> there are wineries and vineyards peppered all throughout the region.> Is there any such thing as a comprehensive map of Spanish vineyards?> My efforts to find it online have thus far not availed much. We like> our wine... a lot!> > Thank you!> > Bill> >

 Good advice, for sure, Tom.
I've been calling credit card companies in preparation for an up-coming
trip to Berlin and France and found that they all charge a 1%
"International transaction" fee, except Bank of America, which charges
3%. When I asked why it charged more than any other bank, the
representative had no answer.

I'm a great fan of the Paradores, though with some caveats. Here's some
thoughts about paradores in the area you'll be traveling in:
1. Segovia - this parador is a modern building, away from the
interesting part of the city. I much prefer a hotel that's right on the
Plaza Mayor -- Hotel Infanta Isabel.

I agree entirely - if Spain is going to issue fines months after an
infringement that caused nobody any harm and was a common occurrence
then one fine would seem reasonable and a whole string of them totally
unreasonable.
And it certainly no way to encourage tourists to return
Sue
