If children are able to approach schoolwork with the right attitudes the teacher's job is made so much easier.  I have discovered improved motivation and behaviour management is much less of an issue. It may be stating the obvious but what is the point of teaching if students don't have a firm foundation of virtues to make sense of the world they live in and the people in it. It's quite simple really and I have had one of my best years ever as a result of tuning in to this . Determination, respect, empathy, humility become part of the students vocabulary along with others and it gives context to teaching and learning resulting in a more responsive and supportive environment for both students and teachers alike. Spend time listening to children's needs and go the extra yard to help out. They sense your sincerity and it is so rewarding to see attitudes begin to change.
