Franz Ferdinand are huge fans. The lead singer (whose name I temporarily forgot) did a full page article in NME on how he'd been influenced by Sparks.....
Billy MacKenzie (R.I.P.) ws also a fan as are VInce Clarke, ANdy Bell (both of Erasure), Martin Gore (of Depeche Mode he covered Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth), Justin Hawkins (ex- of the Darkness) covered This Town...as 'British Whale'. On top of the Siouxsie Sioux (she of Banshees fame) is on record as being a fan (if I recall, they did a fairly awful cover of This Town, too). Then theirs Faith No More....look for a song by Weird Al Yankovic called 'Virus Alert' which sounds very much like Sparks and features a strangely familiar mustachioed keyboard player in the (cartoon) video....it's on Youtube.
In France I know Rita Mitsouko as huge fans! I recently read a biography of the band written by Fred Chichin's brother. He said that Fred and Catherine has been huge Sparks fans since ages! Their music has been influenced, of course. Ariel Wizman -musician and TV producer- is a huge fan too. MJ
