Hello Kirk,
My name is Lee and I am a career counselor
at the Career Center on campus.
Dr. Jackson notified me that you would
like some job & internship resources for you and
your fellow club members.
Due to my current schedule I will not
be able to make it in person to talk with your club, but I
am more than happy to share some great
resources with you that you can hopefully pass along
to your math club members. Please see
below:
Register with Sparta System, the
Career Center's communication & online job & internship system
-Visit www.careercenter.sjsu.edu
-Click on 'Sign In' to the left
-Click 'Sign In' button to the right
(use student ID number for both username and password)
-Fill out the necessary fields to create
your account (it's free for SJSU students)
To search for Math related positions,
follow the steps below (we've got about 40 math related internships and
jobs currently posted):
-Click on 'Advanced Search' tab
-Fill out the field categories of interest
(be sure to select 'Math' under the Majors/ Concentrations tab)
-The fewer categories you select, the
more job results you will receive (I recommend selecting only the
Major category and leaving the rest
blank-i.e. position type, etc.)
Attend the upcoming Career &
Internship Fair
-To view employers coming to the fair,
sign in to Sparta System and click on the
'Business Technical Career Fair Participants'
link under 'Quicklinks'
-To prepare for the fair view our online
Job Fair Success workshop
From the Sparta System homepage, click
on 'Get Your Early Bird Pass'
under 'Announcements'
-Please see attached excel grid (employers
highlighted in yellow are looking for Science/ Math and/or all majors)
In addition, attached below is a resource
sheet which highlights job hunting websites for Math Majors.
