Miller DialArc 250 AC/DC - Tripping 50 Amp Breaker on Start Up
I just bought a Miller DialArc 250 AC/DC. It's a pretty sweet machine, but I'm troubled by something and want to fix it if possible. If I turn the machine on with the amperage set to wherever I left off welding, it trips a 50 amp breaker on start up. If I turn the dial down to zero, it will start up fine.... more »

1/2" The Hard Way
The guys in the metal working group said I should use 1/2"... So I did. Sorta. LOL. [link] After doing all of this and doing some testing I can tell you 3/8 plate would have been more than adequate. I used 3/8 plate and then bandaided 1/8" onto both sides. I cut it slightly smaller than the tang on the plate,... more »

Splitter on Acetylene tank
Hi, In my welding class we are learning safety precautions for Oxy- Acetylene processes. In this discussion we talked about how acetylene tanks are filled with a porous material and acetone to isolate the acetylene because it becomes unstable when stored together above 30psi. In this class we also discussed how we used splitters on the... more »

Update on welding class
I have had three classes already. I have learned one new thing, which is how to properly open and close valves on acetylene welding set. Everything else was very general up to now. Like "keep flammable stuff away". Hopefully, though, we'll be welding a lot in the next classes and I hope to learn a little more.... more »

MAPP vs MAP//PRO for welding?
I've been using MAPP gas to weld, but it's not readily available any more. (I only do occasional small scale work, and buy it in disposable canisters - sure it's not as good as acetylene, but I can make it weld okay, and acetylene cylinders cost a whole bunch of ££'s here in the UK, mainly for rental)... more »

Lawn Edger Bracket
I had more fun putting the new MIG welder to use again today. I bought a new edger because I gave up on making my old one work. I've taken the carburetor apart 3 times now and cleaned it, and replaced fuel lines, but it's refusing to start so I decided it was time to buy a new one before the weeds took over my sidewalks and drive way.... more »

REQ: procon pump information
I have a very old procon pump that I would like to use for a torch cooler. I sent an Email to procon but did not receive a reply. The only markings on the pump are: On the front of the pump (the same side as the nameplate) there is HH7 stamped near the outlet and 10048 stamped in the center between... more »

REQ: flashback arrestor info
Does anyone make a small flashback arrestor with 1/4-inch NPT threads on one end and male "B" hose threads on the other? I would like to screw the flashback arrestor directly into the regulator. TIA
