Big Sit

In case you're not aware, the Big Sit is scheduled for this coming Sunday,
October 12th, all around the country. If you'd like to attend a count,

Sunset Dr: Philadelphia Vireo and White-throated Sparrow

I birded a tract of land off Sunset Dr in Botetourt County this
morning. Highlights were Philadelphia Vireo and White-throated
Sparrow.

Palm warblers moving through

This morning, I watched a small group of palm warblers forage on a grassy/shrubby enbankment outside of my office window, on Valleypointe Pkwy near the Airport in Roanoke. It was the constant tail-wagging that initially caught my eye.

Between 13-hour days at work and helping out at my church's Greek
Festival, I haven't been able to watch at Adney Gap for several nights.
However, I took the Parkway home from Roanoke this evening and was happy
to see at least 185 birds swooping low over the pasture at Adney Gap.
This was at 5:51 pm.

Yesterday morning there was a mature red-headed woodpecker hanging around
our backyard. I had to leave at 10:30 and didn't come home till about 6:00
last night. Never spotted it last evening, nor have I seen one this
morning. We've had some come through around this time just about every
year.
