Hello, all! We'd like to thank everyone for coming; we had a blast!
Some interesting tournament notes:
1) The first oust in the entire tournament was credited to 7 year old Connor Bell. In fact, he was one card shy of getting 1 GW and 7 VP and not only qualifying, but also sitting at the final table in 5th place. 2) Overheard: "I give my procurer +1 intercept and attempt to block." 3) Overheard: "Can we whittle him down a bit?" "Actually, I'd rather you just die." 3) Reform Body successfully saved a Tzimisce from a horrible PTO death. 4) Some tables graciously offered to make blatant errors so that I could correct them since I was *that* bored.
Also, there was a place on the deck registration sheet where each player could indicate a small bribe to the head judge. Here are some bribes which I got:
1) Not as much scorn as usual 2) The empty set 3) A bananana and some pringles 4) 10 billion dollars 5) sqrt(pi) 6) 25 Rolling with the Punches 7) Three-fiddy 8) Two hours of completely non-bar-confirmed legal advice and/or research (not guaranteed under statute or administrative law in any state) 9) 12 days of Christmas full of jail time and used tampons 10) Jill Endress 11) Dan Murdock 12) 1 fishstick
Here are the results of the Great Lakes Qualifier for 2005. With 41 players in attendance, 2 previously qualified, and 1 who chose not to qualify, we had 38 players and thus 10 qualifying spots. That was one scary kid. My first response was, "Aww, cute!" Until I heard how he was ousting people left and right. Never had to sit with him, thank goodness.
Hey, Jay! Only 4 Change of Target? Man, it seemed like you had one ready at all times. Well done. Though I'm not certain how you avoid constantly appearing to be the biggest threat on the board.
Again, Ankur, great job.
--tying Dave Pennington for 32nd place was something of a high point. We'll make the finals next year, Dave. Until then - courage.

I accepted all of them. Unfortunately, none of them actually paid up. Well, there might have been slightly less scorn than usual, but it was hard to tell. I do still want 25 rolling with the punches though. :)

I was afraid too.

<sniff> Nope. <outright bawling>

Well, he had lots of little targets?
<ducks>

Here's a fixed version of the report. One small mistake at the end.

oooo. That's a shame. Especially if you were hungry, because then you could've had a banananana-pringle-fishstick split.

Surely you could've found someone to hit you 25 times?
| And, I can't spell banana.
It's not that bad. You know how to start spelling it. You just don't know how to stop.

Ankur- Good tourney. Good judging. 7 year old was awesome. Thank you for not accepting bribe #10. -Bear

I just wanted to thank everyone at the tournament for making Connor's time such an enjoyable one. In fact, he had so much fun, he hasn't shut up since =). He's been wanting to play for some time, but I'd always feared some people might take offense or take advantage of him - but reality was quite the opposite. When he got the first oust, at least half the tournament was clapping for him (some even with a standing ovation!). I received compliments about his play and his behavior all day long, all of this coupled to convince me to take him to Atlanta, Georgia next month. Thanks again to Ankur and everyone else that made his day (week/month?) and allowed a Dad to be more than a little proud.
