Balancing over Weak 1NT
Assume that when opponents open a weak NT (12-14) you play your standard defense in the direct seat that includes double is penalty. After 1NT Pass Pass, 1. Do you still play your standard defense? 2. Is double still penalty or should it now be for takeout? Thanks

Plan the play
Contract 6S. Matchpoints, no opposining bidding K963 - A32 AKJ532 AJ74 AQJ7432 K 4 Too bad you don't have the 10 of hearts or else you would want to be in 6NT. A diamond is led. This is a complicated hand where a number of lines of play could work. But what do you think is the best line? Regards, Cakemeister... more »

Grand slam on 4-2 fit
I remember reading once about a hand that the Norwegians played in 7C after a relay auction on a holding like: Axxxxx Kx Kx Axxxx A Kx Kx AQJT The idea, obviously, is that the spade loser can be ruffed out when playing in clubs, and the trump quality is good enough that you can ruff high. However, this seems to depend on a 4-3 trump split, and a 3-2... more »

Spot Prizes
Hi I'm looking for some ideas for spot prizes for a fun-night. We will have a few prizes for skill, so I'm really looking for odd things that will arise more randomly, and things that you can play for if the occasion arises, but that might upset your normal bridge. First person to : Be dealt a 7-card suit... more »

new suit forcing
I apologize for a beginners question, but.. My wife and I disagree on when a new suit should be forcing. I prefer a new suit to be forcing when it has a higher rank (S over H), and not forcing when a lower rank (C over H). I also don't like any forces against an overcall. My wife prefers all new suits... more »
