conformation critique
Critique this filly, bred by me, by my old stallion/now gelding and Jewel the infamous trailer non-loading horse. She's been at The Wright Ranch where she was declared one of the most talented youngsters they ever rode. I see a ton of talent when she's ridden and when she free-works, but I don't see much of that potential in her... more »

Aluminum Cleaner
I have an aluminum trailer (solid, not panels or polished) that I believe is referred to as a "raw finish". It's pretty tired looking, from aging and, I guess, oxidation. I'm looking around for a cleaner I'm reading pros and con of muriatic acid. Any suggestions?

Saturday Lesson Fun
Today I started what I should have started a long time ago and worked Hoover in hand on leading and stopping and backing and yielding the shoulders and yielding the quarters. Not too bad so long as I'm on the side he approves of and pretty ugly on the other one. I didn't even TRY half-pass straight away... more »

Surcingle For Sale
I have a surcingle for sale on eBay. I used it only a few times. My mare had a bad injury and can’t be worked much anymore other then walking. I’ve had it for about a year and used it only a few times. I believe it’s a Billy Royal brand but I can’t remember. Reasonable offers won’t be refused.... more »

Anecdotal farriery in the piedmont
  * There are at least two FEI (GP) riders/trainers who are trying to do barefoot with all there horses with seemingly much success. * There is at least one FEI horse (I-1)presently competing who is barefoot. * There is at least one horse who has negative PAs (-2) on both hinds that is conformationally controlled and who does NOT have... more »

Altus Open Horse Show Tomorrow.
The Coggins is fresh. The horse is brushed and clean (for now) I picked up a bottle of Weaver's leather cream. This may not work any better than a dozen other preparations, but it certainly appeals to my conception of what a preservative/polish should look like: thick double cream. The Western tack is clean and bright.... more »

Skeeters in Horse Barn
Hi Gang, I just got this from a friend..... anyone have success against the little bastards? "Hunter, Do you know of any good mosquito systems that kill or repel mosquitoes in a barn? Some of the fly repellent systems, like you had at your barn here, also repel mosquitoes. I've also seen the zappers that kill... more »

Rain Update
So, I talked to Tony today about how Rain was doing. They are having a productive week, spending a lot of time in the ring with deliberate monsters to work on. He says she crosses a tarp under her feet better than she goes past one hanging over a jump and blowing in the breeze, but he's circling her around jumps hung with crinkling blowing tarps and... more »
