Seasoning advice sought
Hi all, I've just discovered this newsgroup and, being a newbie to turning, I'd welcome some advice on seasoning wood. I've acquired some logs which were cut in April 2008. They are of Ash and Maple. The biggest Ash is 10 diameter x 15 long (inches) and the biggest Maple is 7 diameter x 11 long... more »

NiCads
A while back, maybe 2 or 3 years ago, someone posted a site where you could send old battery packs to get them rebuilt. I thought that I had saved it, but now can't find it. Does anyone remember ? Thanks

Old Dog, New Tricks
(I'm cross posting this to WoodCentral and rec.crafts.woodturning because there are knowledgable folks who only participate in one of these turning forums.) When you use a tool a LOT you get very familiar with it - how it behaves in different situations, what you need to do to get it TO BEHAVE, when... more »

fa - anyone want a vacuum pump project?
as many of you know, I try to pick up and test/sell vacuum pumps so you guys can make vac chucks - I picked this one up this last weekend, and I don't see a reasonable way to fix it and resell it at a good price, so maybe someone with more time than I and some motor skilsl would like to tackle it - it needs a new motor stator (in fact right now the stator is not even... more »

Cutting Edge in Texas appears to be out-of-stock. Spoke to someone named "Bob" there. Also looking for the 5/8 or 3/4 Hook Tool bit to fit in my Shear Scraper handle... Any leads or links would be helpful and appreciated! thanks, -j

Turning while Camping
I've been toying with the notion latley of trying to somehow get my Rikon lathe laoded into the camper without stirring raw emotions from my wife. Aside from making the wife mad (which sometimes seems easy for me to do), I've realized a couple of situations that need remedied prior to slinging saw dust in the national parks. 1st is it allowed? Since this could be a... more »

Well, it ain't that bad
There I was spinnin a pen blank and oops! I turned through the wood and exposed the brass. Not wanting to trash the blank, I grabbed some Maple wood dust, dribbled a bit of super glue into the wound, and applied the dust. I then sanded it smooth. I was using cocobole (or was it bocate?) and the fix just blended right in to the wood.... more »

Circular saw blade, bore diameter 19 mm / 3/4" ?
Where can you find circular saw blades with a bore diameter of 19 mm (or is it 3/4" ?). Circa 1980, AEG sold an adapter to turn an electric drill into a circular saw. The blade was 150 x 19 x 2.4 with two short slots off the bore at 180° and a third one at about 45°. The blade is shot and I'm looking for a replacement.... more »
