|
| |
I must admit that I was unimpressed when I saw the black and white photo of the RUSA 10th Anniversary Medal on page 7 of the May American Randonneur, but I pre ordered 16 of them for our Lone Star Randonneurs. Well they showed up in the mail today and let me tell ya they look "MARVOLOUS". Ten years is... more »

BoingBoing top ten perfectly pure "gadgets"
|
| |
The bicycle is there, of course. Interestingly, the picture is a Rene
Herse! Now that is a nearly unimproveable gadget (despite decades of
"advancement" since its construction).

In the same vein, they cite the wristwatch, generally, but show a... more »

Super C
|
| |
Searching about and I'm wondering about experiences with the 'Super C'
saddlebag.
Yes, it is large, and I can carry all I'll need for a brevet series in
it and then some... but I also want to use it for a light tour and
some S24O riding across the lake in the ADKs. (and around town, etc.
etc.)... more »

It's over as of today
|
| |
My R-20 that is. 20 month brevet string broken in June. I did not get to ride at least a 200K. It was really hard those last few days not bolting off and riding a perm. But doctor's orders and all.... Oh well, guess I'll just have to let it go.

Advice on Stomach Distress
|
| |
I am hoping that the group can offer me some advice. I have been riding brevets for the last 4 years and have recently developed a stomach problem in hot weather. On my last 2 brevets, after about 150-170 miles I started feeling quite nauseated. On the Shenandoah 1200 this led to vomiting, dry heaves, and DNF at the 200 mile point. On a subsequent 600k, where the weather was not as extreme, I again started to feel sick after 150-170 miles. I was able to continue riding (with almost no food or water) until the sleep stop at mile 260. Unfortunately, the next morning I became sick after 5 miles (at the first small rise in the road) and again had to DNF. In both cases, I made it through the heat of the day but didn't recover even when it started to cool off. I only once had a similar problem in my previous rides, and on that occasion was able to recover and complete the ride. ... more »

Roof Racks
|

Just sold my travel trailer and now have some money to upgrade my
transportation to events. Looking at a roof rack but several
concerngs:
1. Heard the cruch once years ago: had a rack on top of full-size van
and forgot the bikes were there. With a mini-van or car, will you
usually clear overhead obstacles? Any fool proof ideas as to... more »

Pam Wright Here is a great web site with up close videos and good instruction on how to work on your bike.
