Subject: Supernova e3 mounting
Well, I have decide now to go with the supernova e3 instead of the
edelux with all the good comment I've heard and the fact that the
edelux is not sold yet. My main regret is that Peter White will not
sell them and therefor help with good how-to picture.

I don't know wich model of the supernova I need and how to mount it.
My 2 uses of the lamp are:
-in the summer, I use the light on an 'race' bike and I often have for
long distance an handlebarbag. Therefor, I put my B&M lumotec on an
cronometro nob on the fork
- During autumn, winter, and spring, I use it on an hybrid bike on my
handlebar

So do you think that the supernova will be too heavy to be put on the
cronometro hub on the fork?

What model of supernova do I need? Handlebar or the other?

Do someone have picture of their supernova mounted? The web site from
supernova only show one end of the lamp

Do someone use this part? http://harriscyclery.net/itemdetails.cfm?ID=2750
Would it be what I need?

thanks

Cacheoreille asked for photos of e3's mounted. You can see a couple of
setups halfway down this page. I have the curvy mount - so called fork crown
version - minus the fork crown mount. John has the standard mount.

I believe the standard mount is the most versatile, as the light can be
mounted on a handlebar using various handlebar type clamps, or on a fork
crown, or on a low-rider boss, or on a knob, etc... John thinks the curvey
mount is cool looking! Getting the handlebar mount version, I believe,
limits the ease of mounting.

The R+M clamp works quite well on a handlebar w/o a bar bag. As you can see
from my photos, I've modified it a bit. One of the advantages of this type
of mounting is it saves room on the handlebars. I use a narrow bar and need
the space for my hands!

The bracket from St John's Street Cycle is the sturdiest fork crown mount
we've ever tried. At the cost, it should be. But I would not go cheap on a
bracket for my $200.00 light, especially for an event for which I trained
all year and flew overseas to do :-)

I believe Elton at Harris is looking into getting the above-mentioned fork
crown mount.

If you have worries about the knob and want to mount on a fork without
bosses, consider the terracycle mount, as shown at the bottom of the page.

We also have one mounted on the side of our tandem fork - on bosses spec'd
for lights.

We hope to have some photos of different mounts up soon.  It's a bit of a
scramble to keep our site up to date in the absence of Sheldon, but we're
trying!

The E3 can be mounted on the Nitto QR mount referred to in the link below.
This mount can also be used on a fork blade braze-on.  The beam is wide
enough that there will be a shadow on the left side from the front wheel.
This may, or may not, be a problem/distraction.  To mount it on the center
line of the bike or farther forward is better.  Is there enough space to
fork mount it below the H'bar bag?

Don't know for sure, but a sturdier mount might be a good idea.  Minoura
makes one that is stronger.

The Handlebar mount one sounds like the best idea for your needs.  We have a
standard mount conversion kit if you'd like more options/versatility.  It
has the parts needed to change a Handlebar mount to a standard mount.  We
will be receiving our next shipment of Supernovas around the 21st on this
month (the first shipment is sold out).  Included in that shipment will be
conversion kits to go from standard to handlebar mount.

Look for some photos of mounted lights on the Harris site in the next few
days.

See note above about the Minoura mount.

I also like the look of the swivel-arm of the crown-mount.

The swivel actually gives it a second point of articulation that the
other two mounts do not have.

However the handle bar mount (I assume) could have a z-axis (left-
right) as well as up-down (assuming this is built into the plastic
part as it is in the cateye mounts).  This is my problem with the E6
style mount (as well as this swivel-arm mount).

So I'm really stuck....  Using the handlebar mount on a minora or any
other bar-mount would give rotation left-right and up-down where the
crown and e6 style only give up/down (without making something
yoruself!!!

Stuck stuck stuck... I'll probably order the crown mount just because
it looks cool!  WIsh it had a swivel option on the other side just in
case I want to run two of them and have one swivel on one side and the
other for the opposite side so they would look more symmetric....
