Hi
Sorry, there are no plans for another competition at the moment. We are working hard on version 4.0, which is aimed at Mac OSX as well as Windows, and this is taking all of the time at the moment.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Paul Booth
Question Tools Support

RichEdit errors

 Hi
I think trying to find the common link between a number of infrequent errors is always difficult. However, memory leaks tend to show themselves with prolonged use (although not always). Also, if this was the cause then we would see it on all platforms, and Windows XP would not be excluded.
Although it does not use RichEdit, our server software runs for weeks without fail (it would be months if it were not for the Windows monthly updates requiring night-time reboots). We do not see any memory leaks, despite the automated attacks and the strange things some proxy servers do.

About 6 months ago, I asked about RichEdit line insertion errors that were appearing when some of our users were running a quiz. It happens whe the students try to review the results of the test. It doesn't see to matter if it is XP of Vista. We have shipped around 5,000 quizzes and this problem has happened about 30 or 40 times with different unconnected users. Does QT bleed memory under a certain set if circumstances?

 Hi
Although I am writing this reply to you using an Apple MacBook running Leopard, I am afraid that Question Tools Editor and server software runs on Windows only at present.
It is quite possible to take exams on an Apple Mac using Firefox or (we think) the version of Safari that comes with Leopard (previous versions broke a lot of standards, but Apple appear to have fixed this).

Editor restrictions

 Hi
The message you are getting could be because of two things. You have to register Editor, and then you have to use the Options menu in Editor to enter the serial number you have been sent - this will turn off any warning messages and remove the five-screen limit.
The other possibility is that you have changed Editor using Options -> Preferences to behave like the Professional and Developer Edition. If this is the case the the restrictions will come back into force if you have only entered a free serial number. The aim is to allow anyone to try out the commercial versions for as long as they wish.

 Hi
I have registered and using the Free Edition.
I get a warning 'Unregistered versions can only create small lessons'.
Seems like this applies to the Free Version even if you have registered? Is this correct?
What limitations does the Free Version have?
Thanks

 Hi
Apologies for not getting back to you sooner.
We do not use sharepoint and so I cannot be sure what is happening. However, there is a problem similar to this with zip files.
Zip files can be opened a if they are folders. However, the files inside are not proper files - they are part of the single zip file, and hence file references do not work.

I am looking for a good tool for our organisation and it is very important for me to know how it is possible to link to pictures, movies and sounds in our existing database. We use Sharepoint as a database.
I tried to make a link by insert it in a text-document as you describe in your helpfiles. But it does not work.

 Hi
The text controls within Editor are quite simple, and do not allow you to easily creater superscript or subscripts. I suggest that you create another text area for your subscript or superscript, make this text smaller, and drag it into place. In this way you should be able to achieve what you want relatively easily.

 Hi
Although there is some limited support for Flash to the extent that you can use Flash in a question, much like you can embed a video, Question Tools does not export to Flash.
While Flash can provide attractive animations and interactions, it cannot run on any computer unless the Flash plug-in is installed. As organizations become increasingly concerned about viruses and other security issues, browser plug-ins are being excluded from many networks. In other words, if you use Flash then not all of your users will be able to use your materials.
