Kavre Visit "A Great Experience"

Hello Everybody,

Today, 06 November 2006, we Shankar, Ankur, myself ( Himali Kiran) and Pawan ji from NFCD, went Kavre to see the practice of constructive learning ("Grade Teaching") approach.

This is "Saraswati Nimna Madhyamik Bidhyalaya".

Place: Kavre VDC-6, Badalgau

Established in 2037 BS

Building Block 1                                                                                Building Block 1

Building Block 2

Environment

There are two buildings. There are total 9 classes and class one and class two are practicing this Grade Teaching approach. Class one is running in building block 1 and rest of other classes are running in other building. School is located in a small place where is not enough playground and compound.

Classroom are also decorated in diferrent way. A wall clock, a mirror, drinking water, soap for handwash, towel etc.. are kept in the room, and students can use them whenever they want. Three blackboards are there, one is in front of class and two are in student's left and right wall. One is for teacher and rest of other are for students. Students should take-off their shoes before enter the classroom.

Our First  Experience

First of all we move towards class one, where the class was running. Teacher Nirmala Timilsana was helping her students to study. First of all we saw, the students are teacher themselves. The classroom environment also was different then traditional class rooms mostly seen in Nepalies schools.Sitting arrangement was different, students were sitted on a round table.

Daily Lesson Plan

The teacher write his/her lesson plan of that particular day. All the students know what are they going to do this whole day. >>>

Students make their learning meterials themselves

We found the students are very much active and confident. Another thing we noticed that teacher and students are like friends, students have no fear and not any nervousness. They react normally with us also.

At the leisure time we talked with the students.

we asked them lots of questions. They answered quite honestly. They like their teachers very much. They told us that they like their school and their study. They are free to do anything whatever they like.We asked some technological questions, like what they know about Radio, TV, Mobile Phone and computers. They are familier with Radio, TV and Mobile phone but they couldn't say about computers.

Talking with class one students Shankar, Ankur & Pawanji

(ummmmmm..... where am I?)

Interaction with students and teacher

Teachers & Principal

We talked with teachers who are involve in grade teaching. They are very much interested in the way, they are teaching. They told they had problem to teach whole day for one class before, but now they are enjoying. Eventhough they suggested that if there were some other teacher who can assist him/her, would be very good.

About teaching meterial, teacher told us if they have audio/video facility to demonestrate class lession to students, then that will be better.  Time to time, training and knowledge updation is expected by teacher.

Singing a song by students

Every class starts with some poem or song which sang by the whole class. Students are perfect to sang in perfect rhythm. They sang some songs for us also.

Where I am? Social map, students locate themselves in map.

This is all about Kavre visit.

This reminds me of a trip we took 'Across The Top' of Australia, in a
small boat from Darwin to Cairns across the Gulf of Carpenteria, we
called in to the Tiwi Islands and Arnhem Land. We saw a school there
in the Outback on the way to Gove (Aluminium Mining) hundreds and
hundreds of miles from a town, that had formerly been a Mission
