Subject: Observations on the 2008 ODOT map
I've moved back to Oklahoma now that the school year is done. On the
way back, I stopped at the Oklahoma Welcome Center near Exit 313 in
Miami. Here are my observations:

- First off, it's labeled "2008 Official State Map". Not 2008-09.
Wonder if this is just to compensate for the special Centennial
Edition of 2007, or is Oklahoma going back to annual map releases?
- Opening up the map, the print quality is quite poor, worse than that
of previous years. The lines are less sharp, noticeably so on the
multilane expressways and freeways - the middle line blurs together
with the color, making it muddy.
- Also, the paper seems thinner than on the 2007 map.
- The insets and OTA strip maps have been moved back to the reverse of
the map. The print quality is better on the insets.
- The printing error for SH-87 in McCurtain County appears to have
been fixed. (Some Centennial Edition maps did not have SH-87 actually
printed, leaving the shields to appear to be floating in the middle of
nowhere.)
- The surrounding states are all in black. Wonder why they decided to
do this; seems like an awful lot of black ink wasted.
- I don't know of much that has changed since last year, so I don't
think there's anything new in the actual map. If someone else knows of
something new they want me to look for, let me know.
