Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange
I had to reinstall Office onto my mac from a backup disc image. And now it will not update 12.10. I have rebuilt my identity but when I try to open it in Entourage is says the database is not compatible.I have tyried to import but does not allow me to import 2008 databases.
The question is, I had a load of emails backed up on my computer (my Time Machine is not fuctioning so no back up).
I would like to know where folders stores 'on my computer' are stored? So I can try and bring them back. My emails and calendars are ok as they synced with the exchange server.
The problem we need to focus on is the update to SP1. The database (which can be found in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/your identity) can only be read by Entourage 2008 SP1 or later (i.e. 12.1.0 or 12.1.1). In other words, even though you now know where the database is, you still won't be able to access it. I am curious about how you proceeded to reinstall Office. If it means recreating files from a prior backup, this is usually not a very good idea. I'd recommend removing Office and then reinstalling it; you should then be able to apply the necessary updates and subsequently access your data again.

try to remove office using the 'remove office' utility in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office.
I have a copy of the install disc on my back up drive as it saves carting cd's all over the place. I used the copy on the back up. Should n't that be ok?

This message usually means, for example, that Entourage is at 12.0.0, but the saved database was saved in a more updated version. Since there was a database format change in there, Entourage 12.0.0 cannot open a database saved in later version.
Check under About Entourage to see if it says 12.1.1.

Then, follow the instructions to download and install the two updates consecutively. Then try opening your identity in Entourage.
