1.0 European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2008
EGU 2008 will be held in Vienna, Austria, 13-18 April 2008. The

including information on submission, travel, etc. [financial aid
application deadline has passed].

2.0 HEAVY-METAL SESSION
Last year the heavy-metal session had 44 submissions with people from
26 countries. This year, we have a new set of conveners for the
following continuation session, that is being co-organized by the
divisions of Natural Hazards (NH), Biogeosciences (BG) and Soil
Systems Sciences (SSS).

3.0 ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
To submit your abstract goto the NH Division programme at:

In the upper left hand corner you will see the ten 'subdivisions' of
the programme, so that you can quickly scroll down to each subject
area. Go to 'Other Hazards' and then NH8.3/BG2.18/SSS31, clicking on
'Abstract Submission'. Abstract deadline is 14 January 2008.

4.0 SESSION SUMMARY
NH8.3/BG2.17/SSS31   Heavy-Metal Pollution in the Geoenvironment:
Understanding for Remediation Action (co-organized by NH, BG & SSS)

Summary: Worldwide, and particularly in developing countries, human
economical activities have resulted in the release of industrial
effluents (liquid, gas or solid). These effluents often contain heavy-
metals and associated contaminants, that cause the pollution of air,
water, soils, and many biological organisms all along the trophic
chain. This session focuses on heavy-metal contamination studies,
including characterisation, heavy-metal transport and transformation,
risk assessment, ecotoxicology and restoration strategies. The
conveners solicits contributions that may range from theoretical
approaches, experimental laboratory setups or field-case studies. The
session puts emphasis in developing countries cases and on sustainable
management strategies, but welcomes all contributions. We look forward
to a lively oral and poster session.
