What does a Charm do? A Charm is a set of words or prayers that acknowledge and enlist help for a specific situation. Often there are actions that go along with these words in order to get the desired response requested. One charm that most children would be familiar with would be while looking up into the dimming evening sky, and upon seeing the first star to appear that evening, one would say, "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight." And then you would make your wish, feeling certain that since it was a reasonable request and you followed the ritual, your wish would be granted. But as you see, there was the requirement of looking and seeing of that first star, then in word asking for it's help by saying certain words. You would then get your wish. This is a Charm. In other situations the "charm" or words would be written down for a special purpose and afterward, worn or burned or buried. A four leaf clover or rabbit's foot is said to be a good luck charm and although they require action, the rubbing of the foot or searching for the clover in a field of 3 leaf clovers, there are no words to go with them and no specific purpose. Therefore these are not "charmed" objects but rather objects that are charming. However I must say that you are indeed lucky if you found that four leaf clover and it would be worth keeping.
