I was talking to Kalen Gibbons yesterday and he had a great idea for
the cfug's next meeting. His ideas was to basically we bring our
laptops and we CODE!!
We partner up in groups of two and we build a Flex/Air application
powered by ColdFusion. We do a simple contact manager for the CFUG.
Where we can register and view the members of the group. I believe we
can do something really simple in the time alloted and we will learn a
lot.
Anyways, this is a suggestion that Kalen had and wanted to share it
with the group. Kalen can further expand on it.
At the Phoenix CFUG, every so often we'd have "assignments". Very small, basic apps. 2-3 pages at most. A couple of volunteers would build these, then bring them in and show them at the meeting. It was always fun to compare/contrast how 2 or 3 different people would take different approaches to building the same product.
Everyone does things just a little differently. It's cool when you get that "wow... I never thought of that approach, but I like it" feeling. Sometimes it's not even code related per se, but some sort of functionality/feature in the IDE.
I know that Kalen's suggestion is a bit different, but I think it will accomplish the same end result.

I have an Adobe AIR Training manual with me... but not sure if it was covered by the NDA during the Community Expert conference. I'll ask, it could be useful..

Kalen won't be able to make it to July's meeting, so our flex guru
won't be there. However, I have some workflow presentations and
materials that Adobe sent me. If you would all like, we can do some of
the RIA workflow demos that they sent. They should take an hour or so
and should be entertaining. I will try to watch them soon and let you
know if it can be something we can use. Any other ideas for our July
meeting? I think a hands on programming session would be great
Soplease give your input.
Also, who is going to CFunited next week?
