weather
Hello, From the reports it looks like Hanna and Ike are on the way to North Carolina to disrupt your way of life for a few days. I trust you will all take care and get out of town if necessary. Barb Yost - Standale Michigan - No Hurricanes here!

Hearts & Arrows Ideal cut

BOG and GemCad
I first guess an introduction is in order. My name is Dan Williamson and I live in San Diego. I am an amateur compared to most of the people on the list. I only got my GM2 in June. I bought from John Franke. He has been a terrific tutor.I have only cut about 10 gems on it. I have been lurking on the list. I travel very extensively on... more »

Fw: Tilt
Wayne, There are good reasons for having a cushion of glue or wax between the dop and the stone when transfering. 1. If I am cutting a stone that is easily chipped I don't want it's pavilion against the dopstick. 2. I want that cushion to eliminate any misalignment between the finished pavilion and the second dopstick. I have experienced both of these things happening.... more »

Pressure vs. Measure
In a discussion with a friend today, we were discussing the merits of certain faceting machines when he brought out a point in comparing Fac- ette's EMS with the Beale-Woolley depth of cut indicator technique. I bring the question to this forum to avoid another round of "Machine Wars" because presumably that matter has been decided by members of... more »

group home page problem
Is anyone else having problems opening the group home page besides me. I have tried every way I know how to get the page to open with no luck. Another list member told me he thought he saw some sort of instructions for solving a sticky mast problem I am having. Unless I put considerable downwards pressure on the mast spindle when lowering it, it will sometimes stick, and when I'm cutting a table at zero degrees, this can be fairly nerve wracking. I have cleaned the mast and the wiper inside the mast tube as wells as cleaning the threads on the thimble and cleaning everything I can see as well as humanly possible, but the mast is still sticking. I use Tri-Flow as a lubricant for the mast and only use barely enough to cover the mast in a very light coating. There is no oil pushed ahead of the wiper. I have run out of solutions and need some help.... more »

Tilt
I know this topic has been brought up but for some reason I can't pull up the articles. About 50% of the time I end up with a tilt after transfer. Is it possible that when epoxy cures it shifts the stone out of alignment or is more likely that my transfer technique is the cause of this.
