"Beyond Therapy," By Christopher Durang
Jenna: Act 1, Scene 1
This was a well directed scene. My favorite thing about how this scene was directed is the pre-acting. I like that Prudence comes in, see's that she is the first to arrive, and decides to waite in the bathroom. Then Bruce enters. The other thing that I really like about the scene is the use of the water glasses. I epecially enjoyed performing the ending. It was the best run through of the scene yet. Also, having Prudence storm out at the end helped to show that the scene had ended.
Myself: Act 1, Scene 2
I am happy with how my scene turned out. Sarah and Eric were fun to work with and took it seriously. As can be expected a couple of things did go wrong. Eric was suppose to sit backwards in the chair the second time. The timing of the slap was a little off, and we didn't have our usuall couch. Other than that, I felt the scene went smoothly. If I had more time to spend on it, I would work the ending some more. I do feel like it made it clear to the audience that they have sex afterwards, but it was still a little awkward. The climax was the best it has been, and my actors seemed to really get into their characters this time through.
Tricia: Act 1, Scene 3
Tricia made an excellent casting choice by having Clair play Charlotte. Clair did great job with the pre-acting, and Sergio's Bruce was the best it has ever been. The taking off of the shoes was clear this time, and it was nice that snoopy was in the box to begin with. Their was a clear expo-climax-resolution. Great job.
Ramiro: Act 1, Scene 4
I really liked that Brian's pre-acting before Prudence enters was extended. Brian did a great job with this and with Bruce. The use of the water glasses was a nice addition. Although, I didn't understand why Mary picked up her glass at the begining and then set it back down. The dramatic compositon was present. Mary broke character once, but Brian did a good job of helping to cover. I like that they both exit to indicate that the scene is over. The scene definately improved from the dress rehearsal.
Pedro: Act 1, Scene 5
The pre-acting was smoother. Having Prudence exit helped to indicate the end of the scene. It may have been beneficial to have Sally tie her hair back, as her face was hidden by it a couple of times. The chair movements made sense this time through, and I liked that Eric stood up at one point. The dramatic composition was also clear.
Jessa: Act 1, Scene 6
It really helped the scene to have an additional actress playing Bob. She broke character a couple of times, but they all improved from dress rehearsal. The ending seemed awkward, but I think this was becuase a line or two was dropped. The use of props and costumes also improved. The actors forgot to cheat out a couple of times, but they all projected well. I wasn't sure where the climax was. I enjoyed the arguing behind the door, and the prop that was used to create a seperate space for the kitchen.
Tiana: Act 2, Scene 3
I liked that she explained what had happend before this scene at the begining. The waiter calling was clear this time. I like the use of the table and the ending with the actors in front of it. It was very wedding-like in appearance. Sally's motivation for crying was clear this time. I think all nine squares were used which was nice. Sally's white costume complimented the wedding-like appearance of the scene. The climax was also clear this time through. The scene as a whole improved. Great Job.
