The media are invited to the 85th anniversary of the formation of the Young Communist League of South Africa – 25 May 1922
25 May marks the 85th anniversary of the formation of the Young Communist League of South Africa. The YCLSA will be hosting the CUTTING OF CAKE and a CELEBATORY BASH to mark this historic milestone. The YCLSA has made significant contributions in the liberation struggle subsequent to its banning in the 1950’s under the Suppression of the Communism Act which led to it banning for a period of more than 50 years. In 2003 the YCLSA was re-launched in South Africa as a result of the 11th Congress of the South African Communist Party (SACP).
Since its re-launch in 2003 the YCLSA has waged and led may struggles as part of changing the lives of young people for the better, mainly the working class and the poor youth of our country. We have invited the leadership of the SACP, COSATU, ANC, COSAS, SASCO, and ANC YL.
Cde Esther Barsel, a Member of the YCL in the 1940’s and a Central Committee Member of the SACP, Dr Blade Nzimande, SACP General Secretary, will share with the public the role of the YCL and the struggle for socialism.
