MOONRAY (Roberto Minervini) is a multi-faceted artist. Italian-born music producer, remixer, filmmaker, photographer and video artist, he started his music career ten years ago in Madrid, Spain, as a singer for a crossover band, Doss, that combined the use of synthesizers with traditional instruments. He then went on to found two electronic record labels, Pulpa and Apnea, along with his close friend Jose Villalobos (a.k.a. DJ Ocho). Today Pulpa and Apnea have become two of the most prominent electronic music labels in Spain and Europe, and its records are played worldwide by artists of the caliber of Richie Hawtin (Plasticman) and Thomas Koner. MOONRAY also performs live in clubs everywhere. Along with other Pulpa and Apnea artists, he played at Watergate (Berlin) and Batavar (Paris), and at the Madrid Electronic Music Convention. In other occasions he shared the decks (or better said, the laptops!) with his friend and fellow musician Michael Fakesch, from the popular German duo Funkstorung). Despite his experimental roots, for his live laptop-based dj sets MOONRAY favors groovy, funky house tunes, which he tweaks and personalizes with “glitchy” loops. His sessions are characterized by a warm party vibe, and they never fail to get the crowd excited. Catch him this Saturday for his first ever performance in CEBU.
