Welcome to the Boston Uilleann Pipers group. Membership is free and open to anyone in the Boston area with an interest in uilleann piping. (How big is the "Boston area"? Well, we have members in Rhode Island, New York, California, and Co. Clare!) We get together once a month to play, share tunes and techniques, and catch up.
Thanks to all who came and shared their music at the ICONS festival Sept. 13th & 14th. The weather may not have been the best, but the music was sweet, and people really seemed to enjoy it. Our next meeting will be Thursday, October 2nd, 2008. The Teacher's Chair is open to anyone who'd like to try their hand
at teaching a tune, all you have to do is speak up. We're looking for volunteers to fill the chair throughout the fall. Don't be shy! Check out piping-related public performances/lectures in our on-line calendar. See you at the meeting, but in the meantime, try this:
-Frank (moderator) How to get there, where to park, etc. We meet generally on the first Thursday of the month, at the University Lutheran Church, at 66 Winthrop St, Cambridge
(here's a map:
http://tinyurl.com/28xpbq).
As you can see from the map, it's on the same street as Tommy Doyle's
pub, but on
the other side of JFK street (if you were coming up from the river, you
would turn right onto Winthrop, not left as you would for Tommy
Doyle's). Parking can be a challenge - if you can take the subway, I
recommend it. Otherwise, there's some public parking near the Charles
hotel, under the Harvard Sq Hotel. Parking under the Charles Hotel is
$12 for the evening, after 6pm.
