Personally, I like the comics a lot! Each issue is a little short
compared to an episode of the show, but each arc is about the length
of an episode or two.
There are a few things that I'd like to mention about the comic:
1. Willow is pretty much let loose on doing magic. There doesn't seem
to be anyone telling her not to use it anymore, and that's sort of
turning the story in a different direction.
2. The writers are using the medium to it's maximum potential, which
is a good thing. There are obviously a lot of things you can do in
comics that you can't do in a show without spending a LOT of money.
3. The only thing that I feel is missing from the comic is the
chemistry between characters. Sometimes I just can't think of the way
a character would speak a line (depending on the character), but on
the other hand, some of the characters seem a lot more interesting
because they are not actors, they are purely Joss' imagination.
4. The visuals are better than the show, simply because they are
without limitations.
5. We are getting a lot more interaction between certain characters.
In conclusion, I think the comic is doing a very good job with the
story and mythoglogy of the series. There are times when it doesn't
feel right, but the times when it does feel right completely
outnumbers the times it doesn't. And whenever Joss himself is writing
them, it almost seems better than the show, but that's just one
opinion.
