Subject: MRSA - Incubation period?
I have a question about a relative...

He is a 78 year old man who was in a nursing home, and pneumonia was discovered on Sat May 24.  He was treated with antibiotics there until May 27, at which time he was admitted to the hospital.  At the hospital he was treated for the pneumonia and by May 29, it had cleared up quite a bit.  They were considering discharging him on May 30.

Then on May 30 morning (yesterday), he was diagnoses with MRSA (nose).

I'm trying to make decisions however every time he has been in this hospital, he has contracted pneumonia or some other serious infection.

My questions are....

1. What is the an incubation period for MRSA?

2.  Which is more likely - he got MRSA at the hospital or nursing home?

3.  Would MRSA be a possible cause of pneumonia?  or vice versa?

Many thanks in advance!

Fred
