Latest in the Batman franchise is just too long, or was to me. At 2hrs 32
mins, it was somewhat of an ordeal, even if well-performed and satisfactory
in all other respects.
Has Batman some kink that he can never kill the bad guys, only beat them
up? Or, do we need The Joker, et al, to survive, for future instalments?
Meanwhile, good folk are trashed, individually or in groups. Some baddies
are killed, but not by the Bat.
At least, Batman gets to glide on his wings in this episode, and I look
forward to the day (or night) when he can actually flap his wings - and not
have to rely on the Spiderman technique of shooting out a line to swing on.
Seeing Heath Ledger in his convincing Joker role was spooky, in that we
are viewing the late lamented actor fixed in immortality on the big screen.
But that's the nature of photography, a permanent image, forever replaying
the same role, whenever viewed.
A worthy movie, but be prepared for its length.
