Subject: The Big Kahuna (indeed)
Just finished watching season one on DVD. The prints are superb, and
it was a joy to catch all the scenes missing from the broadcast
versions I'd captured on VHS over the years.

However, I found "Emme's Island Moments" on disc seven of particular
interest.

It's sad to think just about everyone who had appeared in the tribut
has since passed away, but it was shocking to see what time had done
to the familiar faces immortalized by the original show ... especially
"Danno" (wow).

What really impressed though me was the irony in Jack's last name,
because his costars referred to Lord with the fearful reverence of a
God over their careers and the entire production. He apparently
yielded some unusual powers for a lead actor. MacArthur maintained a
positive spin on his personal exposures (of course), but he couldn't
conceal evidence of a lingering animosity I could tell still haunted
him ... and probably does to this day.

It's weird to think Jack was alive in 1996 too, but it's even tougher
to imagine Steve McGarrett a blabbering incompetent needing a 24 hour
nurse maid. I mean, I wouldn't have exposed the face of his
Alzheimer's either, so they had his spousal relic do his talking for
him.

I've heard speculations about a series remake, but I wouldn't count on
a new Hawaii Five-0. For one thing, they could never pull it off
today, and for another, it would have been done already.

I know Jack saw to it that much of his fortune was donated to
charitable foundations, but I'm left with wondering where the other
$140m went after Marie passed in 2005.

According to the Honolulu papers when Marie passed on, the entire
fortune went to various Hawaii charities the Lords had championed for
many years. I thought this was impressive! And who knew ole Jack had
made such a bundle? Good for him and Marie.
