you can buy them in lots of places, but since they have no brand name i cannot tell you what there called, you need to go shopping and look, they ususally come on a spindle or in clear cases which you can see there no brand, cd-r's.
Non-branded discs have no brands. Those who do not make their own discs may put whatever they want into the package. As a result, two discs of such a brand bought at the same time may be different formulations from different manufacturers.
In that environment, what is "reliability"?

Might as well try a swap meet if you really want unbranded.

with a rebate. When I went to look at them, most were labelled at $19.95 with a few they missed at $9.95. I bought the $9.95 package which price was honored at check out (no rebate). These discs have no indication of manufacturer and the label side is completely plain and probably a very thin coating. Don't yet know how well they work. BestBuy are selling 50 Memorex on a spindle for just under $19. In my opinion this would be a much better buy.

Yeah. The rebate period was the week before Christmas.

I find your opinion a slightly puzzling. Granted you do not know exactly what manufacturer makes the CompUSA disk (although they are most likely Princo or ProDiscs), but you know equally little about who makes those Memorex disks. Why would one batch of unknown disks at double the price be a much better buy than another? I guess it's the coating.
Anyway, my experience is that the Princos I've found in the CompUSA packages work great.

The CompUSA generic discs were actually on sale for $9.95, with a $5.00 rebate off of that price, probably only for a single spindle.
Ironically, the brands used so far in the CompUSA generic spindle packs (Princo and ProDisc) are generally better brands than what are found in "name-brand" Memorex (Ritek or CMC) spindles.
Assuming that you mean blank discs with no silk screen logo of a manufacturer on them or paint of any kind - just plain discs - CompUSA sells unbranded 50 packs of Kodak Silver+Gold Ultimas w/Infoguard for $25.00. To me, 50 cents a disc is a bargain for discs I know who made them and that I know work reliably with my equipment. If you don't mind on-line purchasing, the discs from www.cd-recordable.com are high quality, reliable and available in a variety of flavors. Nifty colors too.
"Printable" Blank media... is what you are after..... Verbatum is one company that makes these, ready to drop straight into your printer and print at 1440 dpi

The irony is, I once bought a 100-pack (two spindles) of Kodak Silver Ultimas (branded), marked down to $50, and thought it was a great deal. I would buy some of these "silver+gold" variety as well (same per-disc price), but for some reason I haven't seen them at all in my local CompUSA store. (Actually, I did see some, but they were only in 10-disc packs with jewel cases, no spindles.)
I've heard MicroCenter carries them as well, might make a trip out there sometime.
I don't purchase on-line, so cd-recordable.com is out.

The local CompUSA here carries them, but I never see very many spindles on the shelf. When I was there right before Christmas, I didn't see any at all, and I looked for them. I'll bet they just fly off the shelves.

I went the day after Christmas and there had to be at least 20 packs of 50 - probably more. Yikes! Gotta go it's almost New Year!
