Welcome to the April/May 2006 acsrelay.org newsletter! We hope that your
Relay is no April Fools joke, and that your May is going great!
Let's focus this month on the day of the event and a few other great ideas
that are out there!
*1. Day of Event Ideas
*On-site activities - it's overwhelming sometimes to think about how to keep
your particpants a captive audience - but make it simple - have a DJ who
goes all night (if allowed) with theme hours all night, show movies on a
wall in a corner for kids of all ages, have coffee and tea and hot cocoa,
have prizes for being on the track at wee hours, etc... Here are some more
ideas:

2. Great idea of the month - The quest for 1,000,000 Survivor
names/signatures!
A wonderful idea comes to us from Kathy Morgan at the Lancaster Relay For
Life... Read more below:

*ONE DAY, ONE NIGHT, ONE MILLION!
*I need your help. Are you a cancer survivor? Do you know a cancer
survivor or someone who lost their battle with this dreaded disease?
My name is Kathy Morgan and I am Co-Chair of the Lancaster Relay For Life in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Our Relay will be held on June 9th and 10th, 2006
at Lancaster Catholic High School's Rossmere Stadium.
Our goal is not only to raise One Million Dollars for the American Cancer
Society but we are also trying to honor One Million Cancer Survivors and/or
those that have passed due to this disease by placing their signatures or
names on our Wall on Honor at our event.
In order to accomplish this we need your help. Would you please forward our
signature form on to everyone that you know that has been touched by cancer
so that they can be part of our event. The students of Lancaster Catholic
are creating the Wall of Honor and signatures will be arranged by state and
country.
To create an honor of this magnitude we need people like you to help get the
word out to the nation and the world. Unfortunately cancer touches so many
of our lives and the lives of those around us. This will be a tribute to
the courageous battle that those diagnosed with cancer have waged against
this disease.
As a seven and one half year breast cancer survivor, I applaud anything that
you can do to help us achieve our ONE MILLION SIGNATURE GOAL.
Sincerely,
Kathy Morgan, Event Co-Chair

*3. "Sister" Relay For Life Event Program*
Thanks for all those who have been interested in having a Sister Relay - As
Relay For Life expands, there is a great opportunity to build relationship
with other events around the nation or even the World! Already, several
events have developed "sister" event relationships (just like there are
cities around the world that are "sister" cities)... For example,
Pittsboro, PA and Glascow, Scotland are sister events! And we hear about
more every day. If you would like to be a sister event, e-mail
rflvolunt...@gmail.com and we can match you up... Please specify if there is
a particular location you'd prefer (if you are willing to be "sisters" with
another U.S. event, or would prefer international events)... There are more
and more international events every year, so we'll do our best. Many events
already e-mail and express interest! See the following document for ideas
on things you could do with a "sister" event:

4. Is There An Idea From acsrelay.org That Has Worked Well For You? WE
WOULD LOVE TO KNOW!!!!
Many of you have shared great ideas with us that others have reapplied...
If you have used an idea from acsrelay.org and it was successful, please
tell us! We love to know what has worked well. If something didn't work
well, please tell us too. Constructive feedback is always welcome :)
E-mail rflvolunt...@gmail.com.
5. Other Reminders
- If you have any feedback on this monthly update, please let us know.
Please send comments and suggestions to rflvolunt...@gmail.com.
- Remember to always check with your event committee and staff before
applying an idea to make sure that there are not local/state considerations
that you must take into account (sales tax rules in your state, particular
things about your event or community that would make the idea inappropriate,
etc.).
- Feel free to forward this on to others and have them e-mail
rflvolunt...@gmail.com
to be added to the distribution!
- Remember that if you are ever searching for an idea or information,
please go to the search engine at http://www.acsrelay.org/ in
order to find what you need:
http://www.acsrelay.org/search.php
Or, you can email rflvolunt...@gmail.com and we'll look into it!

* And finally - THANK YOU! - Without you, the volunteers, there is no
Relay!!!!!
