Last night I watched with Liz Cole and Jenny Chapman. The total was 92 nighthawks, down considerably from the previous night. Until the end, most were over a pasture down the Parkway to the southwest, so far that even in my Swarovskis they were just dots and identifiable only by wing and flying patterns. Last night I watched with Jenny Chapman til the katydids were in full cry. We saw about 78 nighthawks above our pasture and adjoining ones. please help identify

Can someone please help me identify this bird that showed up at my house in July? I live in a grassy valley with open fields, with streams and woods closeby, if that helps. It was stunned from a hit to the window, but a few minutes later it flew alert and apparently unharmed. It seems to have much more white than a female Lark Bunting, and the eyestripe was white rather than yellowish. The beak doesn't match a female Horned Lark, and it has more white on the head and throat than a immature Horned Lark.... more »

I wasn't able to watch at Adney Gap tonight because of a social occasion. But I kept an eye peeled on the deck of Bruce and Mary Beth Coffey's place between Bent Mountain and Poor Mountain.
