  I don&#39;t think that the null space is necessarily of dimension 1. A &lt;br&gt; more fruitful approach to the problem is probably to think that many &lt;br&gt; eigenvalues require many eigenvectors and that those eigenvectors are &lt;br&gt; going to bulk up the range. &lt;br&gt; Ken R

  I have 129 names on my spreadsheet, but two students somehow dropped &lt;br&gt; the course at the last minute.   You probably failed to attend the lecture during spring break week. &lt;br&gt; Attendance was actually quite sparse. &lt;br&gt; &lt;p&gt;It&#39;s not so bad. I&#39;m sure that we could work it out at the board &lt;br&gt; pretty easily. However, we didn&#39;t discuss this particular issue in &lt;br&gt; class or in the homework. The authors make a somewhat strange choice
