Gaming programs in the past..
I'm working on an article now about the history of library gaming programs. I've been working through the literature to find evidence of past gaming programs. However, I imagine there were many programs in libraries that we won't uncover through a literature search. So, I'm turning to you. Are you aware of specific gaming programs in... more »

Pirates Online
Has anyone had any experience with Pirates of the Caribbean Online?  Anyone downloaded it and played?  Do any of your teens play it?  I'm thinking of downloading it and trying it out personally (it's free right now) and then seeing how much of a fit it would give my tech people to put it on the PA comps if the kids here are interested.... more »

Games for Brisingr Party
My library is hosting a "release party" for Brisingr, the third Christopher Paolini dragon novel. We have a Wii, Playstation2 and Gamecubes. We'd like to have a game set up on at least one game console during the event. But I'm getting tired of Mario Kart and SSB. I'm looking for recommendations for fantasy-themed multiplayer (2 - 4 players) game or games for any of the systems I have. Best would be for the Wii, second best for the Gamecubes, and lastly for PS2, just because I'd have to buy/borrow another controller for it.... more »

Gaming and graphic novels
Hello all! I have a bit of a question for you all! I'm working on creating a list of graphic novels related to or about games (however you choose to define games). In your opinions, what are the best/most appealing graphic novels that are either about games or based on games? What about the reverse -- games based on graphic novels? Are any of those... more »

Anybody play Madden '09?
Would anybody be interested in trying out an online league? I imagine there are at least a few sports gamers on here, and I'm curious to see how online leagues might work, for both intra and inter-library programming initiatives. Let me know if you're interested; thanks! Best wishes, Joseph Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh -- Teen 4400 Forbes Ave.... more »

Card Games : Girl Genius The Works
GamingCrew, The Girl Genius graphic novels were on the 2007 Great Graphic Novels for Teens, [link] , which is how I discovered the Steampunk realm of Agatha Heterodyne. Has anybody else encountered the card game The Works based on the Girl... more »

Gaming Census - Last Call!
You've only got 2 days left to tell us about your 2007 gaming programs. After that, we will be closing the survey and starting analysis. If you ran a program that used games of any type in 2007, please visit [link] and tell us about the program. The results of this data will be... more »

Funding sources for 'Big Game'/ARG type event
I've recently become very interested in the potential of Alternate Reality Games to teach information literacy concepts to college undergrads. If you're not familiar with ARGs, they're generally stories or puzzles that are played out via interactions with the real world. Characters might call players on the phone or send them e-mails. A recent ARG promoting the new... more »

Educause article about gaming and education
From the article's conclusion: "The second component is libraries, which play a key role in this process of learning. Some libraries have hosted game nights or have developed a digital game collection for access and preservation purposes. Libraries continue to lead the information literacy movement and are well equipped to teach... more »

List of free online games at ALA site
Hello, all! I just wanted to let you all know that I added some content to the Gaming@Your Library ALA wiki - specifically, an annotated list of free games available online. A lot of patrons ask where good games can be found on the web, and this list can help answer that question. I hope you'll find it helpful, and that you'll... more »
