Subject: Known issue: roadmaps stop loading
Update, July 18th

We are currently tracking another problem that can cause map tiles to
stop loading. If roadmaps stop loading but satellite tiles continue to
work, and the  instructions in the other pinned "maps stop loading"
post don't help, here's something else to try:

1) Use your browsers "view source" feature. You'll see what looks like
garbage (the source code to part of the Google Maps user interface).
Look at the very bottom for a sequence like the following:

<!--17259,17735,200407,-->

You may not have one - if you do have it, please post it to the
discussion forum along with the time that you were accessing Google
Maps (remember to normalize to UTC or include the timezone).

2) Clearing your browsers cookies is likely to solve the problem and
restore Maps access. It will however log you out of Google services.

I've been having this issue for several days now. As you said, I can
load the satellite tiles, but not the regular map tiles. I did view
the page source and this is what I got:

FWIW, I've been experiencing this for about a week now.

I also noticed something weird in Fiddler.  Any request originating
from Firefox ends up hitting mt[0-9].gstatic.com for tiles, and IE
uses mt[0-9].google.com.  The URL's are identical except for these two
things.  All of the gstatic URL's return 404's while the google.com
ones work:

Same issue:  Road maps do not load, but Street View (overlays blue
lines on nothing), Traffic (green/yellow/red lines on nothing),
Satellite, and Terrain all work.  This has been happening for about 1
week.

Workaround is to access Google Maps at maps.google.co.uk.  In this
case, I can access all US road maps no problem.

I cleared cookies and cache, same problem.

Using Firefox 3.0.1 on Vista.

I do have Skype, but no extensions or plugins.

The sequence at the bottom of the source is:

Ditto to Andy.  Same problem with both Firefox 3.0 beta and Firefox
3.0.1 on Vista for several days.  What is the deal?  I did not do
anything when it suddenly stopped working.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the post.

I started getting this problem two days ago, where IE 7 stopped
loading map tiles, while it continued to work fine in firefox. The
problem occured only in the 'map' view, other views like 'satellite'
worked just fine. Google Search landed me on this thread and I deleted
my browser cookies and voila! the tiles are back.

Thanks again.

I also have the same problem with Internet Explorer 7.0.6000.16681 on
Vista with the map view only. Other map types are fine. Firefox,
Opera, and Safari on Vista. I'll try deleting my cookies to see if
this resolves the problem, however, I would classify this as a serious
Maps API bug. Maps API should be able to recover from this issue on
it's own without user intervention.

Yes deleting cookies worked resolved this bug. Please investigate as
to the reason the Maps API  is not automatically recovering from this
state.
