Subject: Same error"Could not upgrade database..." etc..
It happens every very frequently (twice or 3 times/week)...I get the
very famous message:

"Could not upgrade database. There may not be enough free space on the
drive or another prog......etc..!!!!"

Then setup starts...Indexing% is then 100% and all is well....BUT the
% gets to 0% then rapidly to 25 and 45 then back to 0% and it needs
4 !!!! idle hours to rebuild..

Thank you google.

I went at least 3 times all over this hard drive killing game...On my
firewall,I allowed all ports  to google,I tried locating and renaming
the backup as  explained in another post...

I also discovered in the main Google Desktop folder that every file
had a twin named something like "_NEW_Googledesktop.exe",same for the
dll and js,txt........!!

Also there were 2 sets of folders with their backup (=4 folders) in
the documents and setting ...

I am truly fed-up with this and there doesn't seem to be any
solution...I will keep (deactivated) the Google Search for another
couple of days then,if no good solution comes up,I will give the new
"Windows desktop search 4" a try...

Please Chris, can you help....I tried the diagnostic tool but cannot
interpret the results..

Today everything happened again and it took 4 h to reindex!!!

I also noted that in the start menu, the Google Desktop shortcut lost
its icons because it leads to absent files named like
"_PREV_GoogleDesktop.exe"...etc..!!

I run XP with SP3

Hi Orlando,

I first want to point out that the latest version of Desktop isn't
fully compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 3.

That said, go ahead and check whether you meet the requirements listed
in this Help Center article:

http://desktop.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13387

If you meet all the requirements, you might want to try rebuilding
your index from scratch. Click the link at the bottom of the above
Help Center article for instructions.
