You can't auto sync. If you can export iPhone contacts in CSV file,
you can import CSV file into Gmail contacts.

You can also try a new iPhone app called Sync In A Blink. It syncs
your contacts directly to your Gmail account from your iPhone without
having to sign up for an account with a separate website.
I've tried it and it works. It's simple to setup.
Give it a try.
