Struggling with anamorphic camcorder footage
|
| |
I am still fairly near the bottom of the learning curve when it comes
to video. I have just acquired a Panasonic camcorder that I have
configured to shoot in 16:9. When I load the MPEG-2 clips into
Premiere Elements they appear horizontally squashed, and I can find no
way to make them display in the correct widescreen perspective.The... more »

One case where Toast does NOT work (was [DV-L] Re: Toast 7)
|
| |
Tried to Toast a broadcast of my daughter's volleyball game (taped it off the air). Game lasted 1.5 hours, and the QT file was so large I couldn't do my "just drop it in Toast and burn it" trick. This used to be the way I did it with the shorter corporate films and demos I used to do. So I created a smaller reference video in FCP, dropped this into... more »

Camcorder Suggestions to replace stolen TRV-950
|
| |
Ok, so I wasn't planning on having to ever replace my TRV-950 which I love and have gotten great professional results from... however I just went out of town and came back to find that my beloved 950 was stolen from my shop, along with the Sennheiser G2 Receiver. What are the "desirable" camcorders... more »

Toast 7

Carlin, Randy, thanks for all your input. Randy, I believe it was you who suggested keeping with Toast 6? Well I installed the older version and guess what?!? IT WORKED! Now I'd love to know why Toast 7 doesn't work. And I'd love to get all the updated features with Toast 9, but will I have to worry about badly-encoded DVDs?... more »

Final Cut Express HD and Toast 7; thanks for the suggestions so far guys...
|
| |
...Ya know, I used to do that and never had any problems -- AFAIK. Just relied on the default settings. But when I customized things a bit, I noticed no problems either -- on the one, newer DVD player we have at home and my Mac's DVD drive. Never tested it on other players so I had no way of knowing -- and still don't -- if this was the cause of the problem.... more »

Final Cut Express HD and Toast 7
|
| |
Hey Carlin, thanks for all that info. Based on some of what you said, I was spurred on to make some experiments. First off was the data rate experiment. I halved the data throughput in the Toast setup dialogue, but to no avail. All I got was a more obviously compressed DVD that still skipped. I tried going directly from AE to Toast, as opposed to constructing a project in Final Cut Express HD. I made a movie from an AE project, DVD'd it, and to no avail.... more »

Final Cut Express HD and Toast 7
|

Folks, I don't like to bug you guys with problems like this (seeing as a number of you sometimes get impatient by non-professional questions), but I am getting to that certain point where the frustration and concern are mounting. I use FCE to create demo reels to showcase my 3D animation and VFX shots. For the longest time I was using FCE 1.0 for my simple edits. When I liked my composition, I'd then output a Final Cut movie. That would be brought into Toast 7, which made me a nice DVD from it. Not so anymore.... more »

DV versus HDV (was Camera / Format advice for Travel show)
|
| |
Regarding my target audience, the only distribution deal that I am close to finalizing involves streaming video - meaning that no HD channel is picking up my show for now (at least not in the near future). For streaming video, I am sure no need for HDV. This fact, plus the need to buy higher spec editing machines sways the equation towards Plain Ol' DV (or POD as I like... more »
