Hi there,
Attached is a message from Gary Emich about an open water swimming vacation. I don't know anything about this company, but Gary is one of the Alcatraz Centurions who has swam Alcatraz more than 100 times. I've participated in one race that he directed and it was really well run. Anyway, if you're interested check it out some more. It sounds like a great vacation to me! If you go, be sure to e-mail us all back and let us know how it was.
Also, don't forget our long course meet is coming up June 27-29. Entry forms are available on our website at www.akmswim.org.
Good luck to all the Gold Nugget participants out there and thanks to the many people from AKMS that are also helping to volunteer on Sunday!
Stay tuned for news on open water swims. I'm guessing the lakes will be ready in a couple weeks!

If you or members of Alaska Masters Swimming are interested in a unique
open water swimming vacation then please visit
http://www.bajaex.com/ChooseYourAdventure/SwimmingExpedition.html
Baja Expeditions has been offering whale watching, sea-kayaking and
other eco-adventures in the Baja Mexico region since 1974. Starting
this October they will expand their operations to offer two 1-week open
water swimming vacations.
You'll swim between 2 to 2.5 miles each morning along craggy rocks and
cliffs, past sandy beaches, through remote coves and from island to
island. In the afternoons following lunch you'll be able to snorkel or
just relax on the beach of one of the many coves we will visit. With
your fuel supplies replenished you'll have a choice of a second swim
(approximately 1 mile) or a hike (between 1.5 and 2.5 miles) through the
spectacular desert vegetation of the interior where you can see such
wonders as giant cardon cactus and wild figs clinging to volcanic
cliffs.
You'll be grouped according to your speed so you can relax and swim at a
pace that's just right for you. If you don't feel like swimming the
entire distance you can simply get out and ride the rest of the way in
one of the two skiffs that always will be accompanying you.
I hope you'll pass this email on to anyone you know who might be
interested. And if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact me at 650 359 3773 or the folks at Baja Expeditions at 1 (800)
843 6967 or by email at tra...@bajex.com.
