Today's Gift - Hazelden 08/29/2008
Today's thought from Hazelden is: We all carry it within us; supreme strength, the fullness of wisdom, unquenchable joy. It is never thwarted and cannot be destroyed. But it is hidden deep, which is what makes life a problem. --Huston Smith How does a man lose touch with his strength, his wisdom, and his joy? Perhaps it is in the nature of humanity. Our most profound qualities are hidden deep. They never go away, but we cannot always find them. There may be nothing wrong with ourselves as men when we lose touch. It doesn't have to mean that we are "bad guys" for getting depressed or for feeling inadequate. Who doesn't have that problem? It is the nature of life that we sometimes feel this way. This program helps us unearth the resources hidden within us.... more »

Check-In .. TGIF 8/29
At my meeting Thursday night the speaker shared a wonderful analogy: A Homegroup is like the Verizon commercial - we have a huge network of people behind us all the time. We can always call them and speak with them about anything and we can trust that support will be there. He also shared that although some statistics show that small percentages of... more »

Today's Gift - Hazelden 08/28/2008
Today's thought from Hazelden is: We learn from making mistakes and repairing them. We do not believe in perfection, we believe in mending. We make progress toward a goal, but we seldom move in a straight line toward it without missteps. Life is like a zigzag chain of events that first brings everything together just as we want and then spills it all over again. We try to do our best, but inevitably we make mistakes. So a large part of normal daily life is spent mending.... more »

Today's Gift - Hazelden 08/27/2008
Today's thought from Hazelden is: One step at a time may seem too slow some days. --Kay Marie Porterfield Impatience is certainly not a virtue. However, we frequently display it as though it were; if we don't get some task done right now, we will have failed for all time. How many backfired circumstances must we have before we get the message?... more »

Check-In .. Thursday 8/28
"Everything happens for a reason". I struggle to fully believe that statement. Why did the 9/11 attacks happen, why do little babies get sick and die, why do horrible things happen around the world every day? There is no reason for that, as far as I can see. However, I do believe that our Program teaches... more »

Keep it Simple
Things so not change, we do. __ Henry David Thoreau There are still as many bars as there were when we were drinking. There are still lots of drugs around. The world hasn't changed. What's changed is that we now live a different way of life. We've learned that, for us, alcohol and other drugs are poison.... more »

Check-In .. Wednesday 8/27
The Daily Reflection on Wednesday speaks about the "fight" to keep our thoughts centered around our Higher Power. It's a fight because we are only promised a daily reprieve from the drink IF we work the steps and carry the principles of our program into all our affairs. Life constantly challenges us - this... more »
